I think maintaining a garden is one of the most human things we can possibly do. We plant the seeds in hopes that flowers, fruits, vegetables, or whatever will grow and we can reap the benefits down the line, while also feeling some deeper connection with the earth. We do this knowing the supply of fruits, the beauty of the flowers, etc. will likely be gone once the season ends. But it doesn't change anything does it? Is the flower any less beautiful because it won't last? Is that part of what makes it beautiful to begin with? I think these are the thoughts that make gardening so appealing. Gardening embodies human optimism at its core. An inherent confidence in a tomorrow that's not necessarily guaranteed.
