Deep Seacrets (Blue Dream)

$30.00 / Sold Out

In 1947, five men and a parrot, led by Thor Heyerdahl, set sail from the Peruvian coast on a 45ft balsawood raft tied together with hemp rope. Their goal was to prove the plausibility of the South American settlement of the Polynesian islands by floating from Peru to the Polynesian islands the same way potential settlers may have hundreds of years prior. Though it was later proved that the majority of genetic, cultural, and agricultural data pointed to Southeast Asian roots, there was an irrefutable percentage of genetic code that came from the Americas that dated back hundreds of years between 1200-1500. Their 101 day, 4300 mile journey was heavily chronicled and though only partially correct, it stands as one of the most interesting and adventurous stories of man’s conviction to seek answers and adventure. The entire original 1950’s documentary is free on youtube. Ocean aside this all has little to do with the shirt itself but I imagine if Mr. Heyerdahl were still around he'd wear it happily as he, his parrot, and I polished off a couple beers on the beach.
